The Economic and Social Effects of Islamic Jihadism
Dear Delegates,

This conference the ECOSOC will debate on economic and social outcomes of jihadism. When translated from Arabic to English, jihad means “strive” or “struggle”. Often times it is used to refer to the movement that was founded in the 70’s with the purpose of overthrowing the Arab World's regimes and establishing Islamic states. The term gained popularity after the September 11 attacks and was a way to distinguish between violent and non-violent Islamists.
Jihadists view God’s rule on Earth as their most sacred belief and aim to defend the Muslim community against apostles, thus they see violence as a necessary measure that must be taken in order to protect their community. In this committee, delegates must work together to find a viable solution to this issue.
