SECRETARY GENERAL:
OPENING LETTER
Dear delegates and faculty,

We would like to welcome you to CDSMUN 2019! This year's MUN will be a unique learning experience, where young leaders will develop abilities to diplomatically solve communal, national, and global problems. All of this happens in an environment where cultural exchange is prevalent, as well as intellectual reciprocity. CDSMUN is an event based in multiculturalism and critical thinking, intended to give delegates the opportunity to debate ideas as to how we can create a more globalized and peaceful world.

CDSMUN has always been unique, but this year, it’s going to improve due to our focus on scholarships and our updated committees, which will provide a greater experience due to the new and informative topics our chairs have chosen. With these new topics, delegates will have to research about conflicts that aren’t very common, which will broaden their perspectives on world issues.

CDSMUN will help you become a better leader, increase your knowledge on unknown and controversial topics, and learn to achieve a peaceful solution for global issues. Your productivity, kindness, compromise, and negotiation skills, are crucial to help solve problems when you participate in our conference. You are responsible for creating a respectful discussion along with the other delegates, as this discussion can lead to resolving the committee's topic, or the worldwide problem.

During the two days of CDSMUN, you will be tasked to defend your position through reliable research, to solve international conflicts. This is your chance to demonstrate your leadership skills, your negotiation tactics, and the quality of your research, all to solve an issue and help create future global leaders. We encourage you to be as realistic and careful as possible, so one day, these practices can eventually become a reality.

We wish you the best of luck in your experience at CDSMUN 2019.

Kindest regards,
Andrea Sala, Secretary General CDSMUN 2019

Queridos delegados y profesores,

Saludos cordiales,
Andrea Sala, Secretaria General CDSMUN 2019.

Nicaragua Refugee fundraiser

A refugee crisis has been growing in Central America as thousands of Nicaraguans have been fleeing their country. Faced with repressions of speech and movement, Nicaraguan citizens are looking for safe havens where they can keep their families safe, while having to hide from the government. Many of these refugees have been entering Costa Rica, Nicaragua’s neighboring country. There have been efforts on behalf of Costa Rican citizens to include Nicaraguan refugees into society, but more aid is required. As part of CDS MUN’s fundraising efforts this year, we will be donating all money collected to a local organization that provides homes and resources to these refugees.
