UNICEF: Child Militarization

Dear Delegates,

Child Militarization is a problem that has its roots embedded throughout history, commencing in World War I. This is a problem that affects many children, willing and unwilling, primarily in underdeveloped and war struck nations. This problem has been exacerbated by the accessibility to weapons and the need for soldiers. As of 2012, 300,000 children have been predicted to be participating in armed conflict; although this number has decreased over the past years many children are continued to have their rights violated.

UNICEF has continuously contributed child disarmament and reintegration into society, yet there are many children who are left to face the world without any form of support after being released from a military group. Some children are not able to develop properly given their circumstances after having partaken in battle and this may lead ex-child soldiers to become inept members of society.
